March 16th, 2012, marks the second birthday of the Cherokee Interact Club!
We have had a great two years so far and hopefully we still have many more ahead of us!
The Cherokee Interact Club will be hosting a European trip in the summer of 2013 to England, France, Switzerland, and Germany. We will be traveling with a reputable company, EF Tours, who specialize in international trips for students.
We had several Interactors who attended a joint meeting with the Canton Rotary Club on a vocational visit to the Canton campus of Chattahoochee Technical College.
Our Monster Mini Golf fundraiser was a great success! Thanks to all of our sponsors and all of the golfers who came to the event and participated!
Members of the Cherokee County Interact Club attended the District Interact Assembly at Athens Academy in Athens on September 24, 2011.
Shown in the photo are (from left to right): Canton Rotary Club Interact Advisor Sue Irwin; District Interact Co-Chair Peter Gleichman; Interact Parent Advisor Sue Swiger; Interactor Ryan Swiger; Interact Parent Molly Ranalli; and Interactor Patricia Ranalli (seated).
At its Year-End Celebration Dinner on June 30, the Rotary Club of Canton presented a Distinguished Service Award to Regina Kiewat, Charter Parent Advisor of the Interact Club of Cherokee County. In its first year, the Cherokee Interact Club excelled in so many areas, including receiving the Best International Service Project at the annual District Interact Conference for its participation in the Kiva microloan program. The Interact Club was also 1 of only 2 Interact Clubs among 64 in the District to receive the Rotary International Presidential Citation for its participation in all Avenues of Service. Congratulations, Regina!
If you'd like to help us make loans to budding entrepreneurs in poorer countries, please consider joining our team (Cherokee Interact Club) on KIVA, the micro-lending organization. Thanks!
Please come out and support us and the fight against cancer at Relay for Life at Creekview High School in Canton! It starts on May 20th at ~5PM and ends at ~8AM on Sunday (the 21st).
Hope to see you there!
Congratulations to our newly elected officers!
President: Thomas Lyle
Vice President: Megan Gunn
Secretary: Ash Sharma
Treasurer: Jenny Kiewat
Director: Lindsey Cline
Director: Ashley Tofil
They will assume leadership in July when the new Rotary year begins.
Our Club returned from the 2011 Interact Conference with a plethora of awards and recognitions.
We were awarded the 'Best International Project of the Year' for our involvement with KIVA; we were presented a certificate detailing our accomplishment of fulfilling the minimum of 35 out of 50 points in order to earn the Rotary International Interact Club Presidential Citation (we earned 50 our of 50!); we were also presented with a check of $600 that the District designated towards Japan relief and wrote in our Club's name! This means that we have raised over $1,000 for Japan and Japanese relief efforts!
Pictures will be up shortly!
Thank you to all the Interactors, parents, Rotaractors, and Rotarians who joined us today at our first year 'birthday' party! It was a great time and pictures will be posted soon.
We are holding our Interact One Year Anniversary on March 17, 2011 at the Cherokee Arts Center at 6:30PM.
These are a couple of pictures from our most recent community service event, where we had several Interactors participate in the annual bell-ringing event for the fundraising efforts of the Salvation Army.
Thanks to everyone who joined us at our first annual Monster Mini Golf Tournament! We raised a lot of money and we hope to see more people there next year!
Everyone needs to please sign up for Riverfest and let us know when you will be available to work. Thanks!
Mr. Peter sent me this link to share with you all.
An Interact Club in Oregon recently held this event as a fundraiser.
Read about it here: Interact Club From Oregon
Those who were there last time will remember that we all went around the room with a dollar, and shared one happy event that has recently happened or will happen soon.
With the Happy Dollars, we gained $30.
We decided to use this money to vote on Mr. Peter's submission to the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. Every $3 represents one vote, and all the money will go to buy books for children in an underprivileged and underfunded library.
While the voting polls are not yet up and running, once they are operational, we will vote for Mr. Peter ten times and donate all $30 to the library system.
Thanks and I hope to see you all in April,
We have received our official Interact Charter in the mail!
We will be holding our celebratory dinner at 6:30 PM, on April the 22nd. We will be meeting for around one hour at the Cherokee Arts Center in Downtown Canton.
We have also recently decided on our Committees and the members wishing to participate within these:
Max Kiewat (as Treasurer)
